Welcome!

Peace be with you!  Welcome to our website.   I am happy to have the opportunity to tell you a little bit about our parish and myself.   I have had the privilege of serving the good people of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish as pastor for the past 15 years.  This followed my three-year assignment at St. Francis of Assisi in Ann Arbor.

Prior to accepting the call to be a priest, I spent 17 years in business in Detroit and New York. As pastor and priest, today I seek to inspire nearly 1200 families to be Christ-centered and spirit-led in all that we do. I am grateful for the opportunity to share with them the good news of God’s love so clearly present in and through the person of Jesus Christ.

Having grown up in Catholic Schools (Lansing St. Mary, O’Rafferty) I am a strong supporter of Catholic education and continue to support efforts to make our school more affordable and available for our families. I like IHM’s focus on family – based faith formation. I want our parents to know we support this most important work of Christ.

On a personal note I am one of eight children born to the late Robert and Marion Byers. When I am not serving in the parish or participating in various events of the Diocese, you will find me at the gym, on the tennis court or gathering with one or more of my siblings. I enjoy the sports, arts and entertainment opportunities that are offered in the Lansing area, especially through the Wharton Center. Favorite Michigan spots include Houghton Lake (I have family there now), and Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Thanks for your inquiry. I hope your experience of our parish is grace-filled and life giving.  I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you.

Your servant in Christ,
Fr. John Byers
