Councils and Commissions
Parish Leadership Team
In 2023 IHM established a new committee known as the Parish Leadership Team (PLT). The PLT is primarily responsible for helping the pastor establish clear priorities and fulfill the mission entrusted to the parish. This includes, assisting the pastor in aligning staff, volunteers, councils, and parishioners around the direction and priorities of the parish; being attentive to the needs of the parish, and working for the health and effectiveness of the entire parish, not simply personal areas of expertise or responsibility.
The PLT spent an extended amount of time praying and discerning the mission and vision of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. In doing that, we asked these questions: Why do we exist? How do we behave? How will we succeed? You can find the answers to these questions below.
How do we Behave?
Faithful Obedience
So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter. 2 Thessalonians 2.15
The obedience of faith (Romans 16.26) is to be given to God…, an obedience by which man commits his whole self freely to God, offering the full submission of intellect and will. Dei Verbum 5
The Church in her teaching, life, and worship hands on to each generation all that she is and all that she believes. This Tradition comes from the apostles, and progresses in the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Dei Verbum 8
It is clear, therefore, that sacred tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the teaching authority of the Church…are so linked and joined together that one cannot stand without the others. Dei Verbum 10
Those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing. James 1.25
Then the one who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you handed over to me five talents; see, I have made five more talents.’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and trustworthy servant.” Matthew 25.20
The faithful in Christ have an obligation to bear fruit in charity for the life of the world. Optatam Totius 16
Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12.2
Whoever says, “I abide in him,” ought to walk just as I walked. 1 John 2.6
The practice of the counsels [of obedience, poverty, and chastity] under the impulsion of the Holy Spirit, gives and must give the world a striking witness. Lumen Gentium 39
An evangelizing community knows that the Lord has taken the initiative, he has loved us first, and therefore we can move forward, boldly take the initiative, go out to others, seek those who have fallen away, stand at the crossroads and welcome the outcast. Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium
Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire. St. Catherine of Sienna
Do not get drunk with wine. But be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5. 18
The foundation of the New Law is the grace of the Holy Spirit, who is manifested in the faith which works through love. St. Thomas Aquinas
When Jesus, who had suffered the death of the cross for mankind, had risen…he poured out on his disciples the Spirit…From this source the Church, equipped with the gifts of its Founder…receives the mission to proclaim among all peoples the Kingdom of Christ and of God, and to be on earth the initial budding forth of that kingdom. - With wholehearted devotion, I seek God’s will in every aspect of my life
- To grow in freedom, I submit my heart and mind to God’s Word, Jesus Christ, revealed to us in sacred tradition and Sacred Scripture
- I trust the teaching office of the Church (the magisterium) to faithfully interpret God’s Word and guide us in matters of faith and morals
- I study the words and the example of our mothers and fathers in the faith, grateful for 2,000 years of wisdom in sacred tradition
- I have discerned the role God has for me in the mission of IHM and participate with both my financial resources and my time
- I pray for Fr. Jim, Bishop Boyea, and Pope Francis daily

The faithful in Christ have an obligation to bear fruit in charity for the life of the world. Optatam Totius 16
- I seek to encounter Jesus, especially in the Eucharist
- Realizing holiness is acquired one act at a time, I seek to do the good with each choice set before me
- I complete the “small things” of daily life with care and attention, striving to do them with great love, first in my primary vocation and then the other work God has called me to
- I am constant in the spiritual disciplines that cultivate growth in love, especially: daily prayer, weekly mass, adoration, tithing, fasting, reconciliation
- I practice magnanimity, dreaming big for God’s kingdom, and I take risks in pursuit of those dreams
- I am mindful to encourage and build others up, and I am also willing to challenge or confront others in love when necessary

Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire. St. Catherine of Sienna
- I take initiative to bear witness to Christ, knowing I don’t have to be perfect to speak or act on Christ’s behalf
- I tell others with words the Good News of what God has done for us through his Son, Jesus
- In the midst of a culture that overvalues power, money, and sex, I practice the “evangelical counsels” of obedience, poverty, and chastity in ways fitting to my vocation
- My words and actions contribute to the culture of life, recognizing the dignity and equality of every human person, and resist the culture of death
- I am diligently seeking a deeper understanding of Scripture and Tradition, in order to live by, share, and defend the teachings of the Catholic faith
- I am striving to be a saint, aware that growth in virtue is growth in the freedom to love others and, thus, have a greater impact for the Kingdom of God.

Lumen Gentium 5
- I foster a relationship with the Holy Spirit by inviting him to be present in all we do
- I listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and act on them in faith
- I have discerned my spiritual gifts and charisms and actively use them to build up the Body at IHM
- I help others in the parish to discern their gifts and charisms and how they can put them into practice
- I pray for physical, spiritual, and emotional healing for myself and for others
- I participate in the parish’s goal of providing others with opportunities to encounter the Holy Spirit
- I pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit
- We pursue Jesus through Sacraments, koinonia, Catholic education, discipleship, evangelization, and service to the poor in South Lansing and Holt.
- Think like a missionary
- Encounter opportunities with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- Sunday Excellence
