Confirmation
Why Activity? Jesus is the model of the Christian life. When we look at his life we see an intentional choice to live in community (Matt 4:18-22, Mark 1:16-20, Luke 5:1-11), to go into wild places (Matt 4:1-11,Luke 6:12, Luke 9:28-26), and to spend time with his friends (Luke 10:38-42, John 3:22-36, John 12:1-3). Our intention is to incorporate these aspects of Christian living into our program to model for our students the Christian life, to expose them to the beauty of God’s creation and to help them build a community of faith filled friends to support them on their journey. All while digging in deep to the teachings of the church and learning to pray well. Throughout the New Testament there are countless examples of God communicating to us the importance of community on the Chrsitian journey (Heb 10:24-25, Rom 12:4-5, John 1:7). Our tradition communicates this further by saying “through the exchange with others, mutual service, and dialogue with his brethren, man develops his potential; he thus responds to his vocation” (CCC 1879). It is important for our candidates to have peers who know Jesus and seek to live out the faith together. We see throughout the Gospel Jesus just spending time with the apostles and his friends. We seek to model this important part of relationship building by providing candidates time to just enjoy being alive with their friends which is why we’ve intentionally incorporated time into the program for fun activities. We know that creation reveals the glory of God to us (CCC 193). Our activities will be focused on getting into the natural world where we can enjoy the delights that God created for us with the unique and unrepeatable people he placed in our communities.
- Info: Confirmation Formation will take place most Tuesdays from September 23rd until April, included in the formation process is a retreat taking place in January and three activity days which will be on Sundays. See schedule for dates. These extra activities are intentionally included to not only prepare students for Confirmation but to give them the tools and practice to continue working with the Holy Spirit forevermore. The Holy Spirit “transforms our hearts and enables us to enter into the perfect communion of the blessed Trinity” and to build up the “harmony of the people of God” (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium [Joy of the Gospel], no. 117). Moving in “great haste” to do the will of God and, thus allowing the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts, is a lifetime pursuit and we want to prepare and support our students well on this ongoing adventure. We look forward to supporting you and your family in preparing for this important Sacrament. Please sign your student up using the Google Form HERE
