Baptism is "the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission" (CCC #1213).

Baptism
Godparents
“For the grace of Baptism to unfold, the parents' help is important. So too is the role of the godfather and godmother, who must be firm believers, able and ready to help the newly baptized - child or adult on the road of Christian life. Their task is a truly ecclesial function (officium). The whole ecclesial community bears some responsibility for the development and safeguarding of the grace given at Baptism.” (CCC #1255)
Requirements for Godparents:
Godparents play an important role in the life of the child to be baptized. They represent the broader Church community and must be a living witness of the faith. The responsibility of a Godparent is to model the life of a disciple of Christ.
You may choose to have one or two Godparents. If you choose to have two Godparents, one of them must be Catholic. The other Godparent can be from a different Christian tradition and act as a “Christian Witness” to the faith. If two Godparents are chosen one must be male and the other female.
Godparents:
Immaculate Heart of Mary partners with families who are seeking initiation into the Church for their school-aged children who attend IHM School, who are homeschooled, or who attend public or other schools in the area. - Register with the parish – to begin the process of having your child initiated into the Church, please CLICK HERE to register with the parish. Baptism is a sacrament of initiation. Your child is being initiated into the communion (the community) of the Church. As such, it is necessary that the parents are making a commitment to the community; and that the child to be baptized has a community to join.
